In honor of the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, we will obama_coverrebroadcast an interview with Dr. Shel Leanne, author of SAY IT LIKE OBAMA on the January 19 edition of Economic Perspectives.  The interview is also available for download by clicking here.  The interview was originally  broadcast on  September 29 . 

In this book Dr. Leanne examines the lessons to be learned from the communication practices that have helped bring about Obama’s success.  The book is about the art of persuasion, the power of presentation, and the most effective techniques of communicatiom.

Sept. 15: New Web Site Helps Consumers Shop for Insurance

Audrey Selden will discuss a new web site designed to help consumers shop for home and auto insurance,, on the September 15 edition of Economic Perspectives.  Developed by the Texas Department of Insurance and Office of Public Insurance Counsel, allows consumers to view sample homeowners or auto insurance rates from the top 25 insurer groups, based on a personal profile submitted by the consumer.  The service is free and no confidential information is required to be submitted.

Selden is the Senior Associate Commissioner for Consumer Protection and the Provider Ombudsman at the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI).  She oversees the TDI division that assists consumers with questions and disputes about insurance. Selden has a law degree from Harvard University and is a graduate of Leadership Texas and Leadership America.

Making Where To Live The Most Important Decision Of Your Life” by Richard Florida on the September 8 edition of Economic Perspectives. Florida, a professor of Business and Creativity at the University of Toronto, argues in his book that where you live has an equal if not greater effect on our economic future, happiness, and overall life question, than your career and educational choices. According to Florida’s evaluation of regions with 1 million or more people, the Austin area is the 16th best place to live for families with children and the 2nd best value.

Ladha serves as the Outreach and Communications Manager for PeopleFund, a nonprofit community development financial institution which creates economic opportunity. Ladha’s responsibilities include managing the East Austin Economic Summit, which is being held October 11, the PeopleTalk Speaker Series, and Focus East, an initiative of East Austin business owners to work collaboratively on marketing, infrastructure improvements, and coalition building to create a stronger business community in East Austin.
