Paul Carroll, co-author of Billion Dollar Lessons: What You Can Learn from the Most Inexcusable Business Failures of the Last 25 Years, will be a guest on the October 10 edition of Economic perspectives.  Carroll along with co-author Chunka Mui researched 750 major business disasters of the past quarter-century to find lessons that provide “failure insurance” for almost any strategy.  They found that 46% of these 750 failures could have been avoided if the companies had been aware of potential problems.  They also found that the #1 cause of failure was misguided strategy-not sloppy execution, poor leadership, or bad luck.

Carroll wrote for The Wall Street Journal for seventeen years and is the author of Big Blues: The Unmaking of IBM.
